FAQ
Here are some more common questions I get asked:
Who are your favourite artists and your favourite pieces of work?
My favourite piece is by Heath Robinson called 'How to Dispense with Servants in the Dining Room'. It was always hung on the wall at my parents' house throughout my childhood and I just love the design work and engineering in it. I also love a lot of the local street art we have in Bristol, there are too many to mention but we are spoilt for choice here.
Anything by Escher is amazing (I love the mathematical style) as well as Dalek ( a US street artist). It also goes with out saying that I love surreal art. Salvador Dali is up there in the top 5 for sure!
What is your art expressing?
I try to avoid having political agendas with my art work. Drawing for me is about releasing emotions as well as trying to stay content in a haphazard world. If I can take people's minds away from the s**tstorm that is the current social and political world right now then I would feel like I've achieved something.
I have all the respect in the world for all the artists that focus on political issues but this is just not something I want to do. Although saying that, I guess my comment on current social or political is that it is all too much for everyone at the moment and we need some light relief!
Did you go to art school?
I'm a self-taught artist and never went to art school or gained art qualifications at school. I do however have memories of really enjoying creating surreal collages at school in year 9, based on Salvador Dali. When I was pregnant and living in Australia I attended a water colour class as well as a life drawing class. I have continued with life drawing classes as and when I have time as I think they are crucial for any type of figure drawing (including robots!).
